How to use NSCalendar when working with NSDate

I am trying to get my head around NSCalendar but I am stuck on this line:
NSDate * d = [NSCalendar calendarWithIdentifier:NSLocaleCalendar forDate:date];

I have set the date to be 2015-06-11 18:10:07 +0000 but for some reason it is reading it as (null)
Can anybody point out what I am doing wrong?
If anybody could point me towards a tutorial I would be so glad,
